How to add a review widget to Squarespace
Squarespace's native Customer Reviews feature only works on commerce product pages, not general site pages. Outside of commerce, most sites either build a manual testimonials section inside Squarespace or embed a third-party review widget with a Code Block for one page or Code Injection for site-wide placement.
Squarespace does have a native reviews feature, but it is commerce-only. Customer Reviews lets customers leave star ratings and written reviews for physical, download, service, and subscription products, displayed in tabs at the bottom of product detail pages. It does not cover gift cards, and there is no native way to collect reviews for your business broadly — only per product.
If you are not running a store, or you want reviews somewhere Squarespace’s native feature does not reach (a service page, a portfolio, your homepage), the honest options are: 1) build a manual testimonials section inside Squarespace, or 2) use a third-party review widget and paste its embed code into your site.
That distinction matters. A testimonial section is just content you control inside Squarespace. A review widget is usually an external service that syncs reviews from another platform (Google, Yelp) and renders them with JavaScript.
How to do it in Squarespace 7.0 vs 7.1
On both 7.0 and 7.1, the basic workflow is similar: add a blank section where you want the reviews, insert a Code Block or Embed Block, and paste the widget code. If you want the widget on every page, use site-wide Code Injection instead of a single page block.
The main version difference is not the review widget itself. It is the surrounding site structure. In 7.1 you are usually dropping the widget into a section-based page layout. In 7.0 you are more likely working inside an older page or template structure. The embed idea is the same.
When you need a plugin / what solves this easier
If you only need curated proof, skip the widget and build a native testimonial section. It is faster, easier to style, and does not depend on another service.
If you need synced third-party reviews, use a dedicated review-widget service. In practice, these tools generate the code and Squarespace is just the place you paste it.

Common gotchas
- Personal-plan-friendly HTML embeds are not always enough for JavaScript-heavy review widgets.
- Site-wide Code Injection is cleaner for floating badges, but page-level Code Blocks are easier when you only want reviews on one page.
- Embedded widgets may not fully render while you are logged into the editor, so test the published page in preview or an incognito window.
- If speed matters, keep third-party widgets to the pages that actually need them.
