Squarespace vs Alternatives (Designer POV)
Which Squarespace plan do I need to use plugins and code injection?
You need the Business plan or higher for sitewide Code Injection (Header and Footer), which is how most Squarespace plugins are installed. On the Personal plan, sitewide Code Injection is not available, so you can only use a per-page Code Block workaround that may be less reliable and harder to maintain.
Business plan or higher for Code Injection
Most Squarewebsites plugins install by pasting a snippet into Squarespace’s sitewide Code Injection (Header for CSS, Footer for JS), a feature available on the Business plan and above (Squarewebsites). On Business and higher, the snippet applies across the whole site, which is what the plugins are designed for. Commerce plans also enable Code Injection, so a store running Universal Filter or Custom Table Block works the same way.
Personal plan workaround
On the Personal plan, sitewide Code Injection is not available. The documented workaround is to paste the plugin code into a Code Block or Markdown block on each page instead. This works for some plugins but is less reliable, harder to maintain across many pages, and can be removed by Squarespace over time, so it is treated as a hack rather than a supported path (Squarewebsites).
Plan naming note
Squarespace renamed its plans in 2024, so the exact plan labels and prices may have changed current plan names and pricing. The reliable rule is: choose a Business plan or higher for sitewide Code Injection, and treat the Personal plan as Code-Block-only.
